Juliette et Justine (sometimes called JetJ) is one of the most famous brands under the classic lolita substyle. It’s best know for its painting prints (Amour D’Amants, for example) and its interpretations of 18th and 19th century Victorian and Edwardian dresses from England and France.
Juliette et Justine relies on the opulent side of the classic substyle, showing us dresses with religious motifs, French paintings, fairy tales and refined patterns over marvelous fabrics with texture that could easily take part on high fashion shows.
A curious thing to note is that 40% of JetJ’s customers are from outside of Japan. On their website it’s possible to find more about their international presence during the last years:
The name of the brand may derive from the sisters Juliette and Justine from Marquis De Sade’s books, published towards the end of the 18th century. Mari Nakamura, the head designer of Juliette et Justine, once said in an interview that the name of the brand was actually chosen by Novala Takemoto (kamikaze Girl’s author).
Mari Nakamura is the head designer of Juliette et Justine. Before creating JetJ she had already sold her designs to famous brands like Victorian Maiden, and focused on making solid pieces that could highlight gathers in an unique style. After a fight with VM’s head designer she left the company and then founded Juliette et Justine.
JetJ’s pieces are all about looking gorgeous. Even the most basic piece can make your coord stand out, so that’s why this is the perfect brand for those who like to look refined without having to go all the way over the top.
If you own a main piece from JetJ, my suggestion is to make it the spotlight of your coordination, drawing its most prominent colour and using it as a guide when choosing your accessories.
Refined jewellery, high fashion hats and exclusive shoes designs might help you enhance Jetj’s unique pieces!
