Harajuku Tokyo Fashion Exhibit: Working with Lolita Model Misako Aoki

In Honolulu, Hawaii we had this amazing exhibit on Harajuku Fashion called the “Harajuku Tokyo Fashion Exhibit”. The exhibit was full of clothing and accessories of various Harajuku styles. There were also videos and pictures displayed within the exhibit as well. One of the coolest things I thought about the exhibit is that they hired live models to work in the exhibit and to also act as a docent to the visitors. I was very fortunate and was chosen to work in this exhibit.

During my time in the exhibit I was able to meet many models and designers from Japan. One of special guest models and speakers we had attend a few different events was Lolita model and Chairman of the Japanese Lolita Association Misako Aoki.

The first night Misako Aoki was here we had dinner with her, the curator of the exhibit Sara Oka, and a few of the local Lolitas also attended.

The next night a panel was hosted by Misako Aoki at the Modern Honolulu hotel. Misako Aoki led a presentation about Lolita Fashion and also used local Lolita guests to demonstrate certain styles of Lolita Fashion.

The day after was Misako Aoki’s last day. During the day we spent time together traveling around and window shopping in the shopping district of Waikiki. Afterwards we got ready together for the Art After Dark event being held at the Honolulu Museum of Art.

The last day was by far the busiest day we had yet! The museum was packed with people and it was so much fun! I spent most of the night in the exhibit talking to people about Harajuku Fashion and taking photos with the guests.

Misako Aoki spent time in various parts of the museum, visiting with guests and signing autographs. She also brought items for her book / item signing, which took place in museum’s bookstore.
