Nail Art for Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air, or so every grocery store candy aisle would have you believe. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with date or treating yourself to some nice chocolate, here are a few nail art designs for February.

Dotting the i in “i love you”

This design will require a dotting tool (a bobby pin will work too). Prep your nails as desired and paint a base color. It can be any color, as long as you pick two contrasting colors to work with. Top with a quick dry top coat and wait for it to dry.

Use your dotting tool to make two dots close to each other or slightly overlapping for the top of your heart. Drag towards the center of the dots to create the bottom of your heart. Feel free to fill in any gaps from dragging the paint.

Drop me a line

This design will require some nail art brushes. Prep your nails as desired and paint a white base coat. It make take two or three coats before your white is a uniform color.

After applying a top coat and waiting for your white to dry, make a V connecting the corners of your nail. Draw two lines from the bottom of your nail that do not touch in the middle.

Tip: use acrylic paint for detail work. The acrylic paint will allow for greater detail and makes cleaning your nail brushes much easier.

Seal your letter with a heart and its ready to send!

Fill in the blank

This design will require a dotting tool (preferably a few of varying sizes). Prep your nails as desired and paint a base color. It can be any color, as long as you pick contrasting colors to work with. Top with a quick dry top coat and wait for it to dry.

Use your dotting tool to start making a large heart. I used a few dots as my guide posts, two at the top of the heart and one at bottom. It may also help to make a dot outline of the heart, but try not to use the same color and size for all these dots.

Switching colors and sizes, fill in the interior of your heart. Its okay if the heart isn’t completely symmetrical. Keep working until you’re happy with your heart.

If your art doesn’t turn out as desired, keep practicing! You improve each time you paint your nails, so patience is key. You’ll learn to make nails you love.
